PRIDE
Pride is considered to be the original and most serious of the deadly sins. The merchant is guilty of this, because he admires himself very much and fails to recognize the accomplishments of others.
SEVEN DEADLY SINS
The seven deadly sins are rooted in the catholicism, and they are believed to lead to eternal damnation. The merchant's deadly sin is pride, for he acts with confidence, despite his growing debt. He is also a sinner due to his greed.
GREED
Greed is a sin of excess. It is applied to those with a very excessive desire of or pursuit of material possessions. Due to his pursuit of quality articles of clothing, the merchant is guilty of greed.
